Standard Fiberglass Filter for Aluminum Casting

Our resin‑coated standard fiberglass filter mesh is the widely‑adopted disposable filtration solution for general molten aluminum alloy casting. Woven from high‑quality alkali‑free E‑glass fiberglass yarn, the fabric is saturated with heat‑resistant refractory resin to gain sufficient hot‑strength under aluminum pouring temperature.
During casting, the mesh physically blocks slag, oxide films, dross, sand particles and other non‑metallic inclusions floating inside molten aluminum. By removing these impurities before the metal fills the mold, it effectively reduces inclusions defects and improves surface finish of finished castings.

This resin‑impregnated grade offers outstanding cost advantage for large‑volume regular foundry production. It is flexible for die‑cutting into various shapes to fit gating systems of sand casting, permanent mold casting and gravity casting lines.

Key Benefits

  • Cost‑competitive disposable filter for high‑volume standard aluminum casting
  • Good hot tensile strength, resists erosion from flowing molten aluminum
  • Reliable interception of slag, oxide dross and sand‑derived impurities
  • Easy processing: can be die‑cut into discs, squares, strips or supplied in jumbo rolls
  • Compatible with gravity casting, sand casting, permanent mold casting processes
  • Does not contaminate aluminum melt; filtered leftover aluminum can return to melting furnace
  • Flexible custom dimensions to match customer’s sprue and gating design

Typical Applications

General aluminum sand casting, aluminum ingot production, ordinary gravity die‑casting, low‑requirement aluminum structural parts, recycled aluminum liquid filtration, non‑critical automotive auxiliary castings.

We strictly adopt alkali‑free E‑glass raw material instead of medium‑alkali glass fiber to avoid sodium‑related contamination to molten aluminum.

Each batch undergoes inspection including mesh count check, thickness measurement, gas‑evolution test and high‑temperature pouring simulation test. Batch test reports can be provided upon request.

How It Works

When molten aluminum flows through the woven fiberglass mesh:
  1. Large‑size slag and dross are physically blocked on the surface of filter fabric.
  2. Fine oxide fragments are captured inside the interwoven fiber structure.
  3. Clean molten aluminum passes through mesh openings and flows toward casting cavity.
  4. The filter stays intact throughout normal pouring cycle thanks to resin coating reinforcement.

Important Usage Notes

  1. Suitable for casting parts that tolerate limited gas‑related risk. For parts sensitive to pinhole and porosity defects, select our carbonized smokeless fiberglass filter mesh.
  2. Install flat and keep sufficient support under the filter to prevent floating or shifting during aluminum pouring.
  3. Avoid sharp bending before installation, prevent fiber damage and local breakage.
  4. Suggest pre‑heating together with gating system in high‑volume automatic casting lines.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will resin‑coated fiberglass filter produce smoke during pouring?

Yes. The organic resin coating will burn under high molten‑aluminum temperature, generating smoke and slight gas release. It is recommended for castings with allowable minor gas risk; choose our carbonized smokeless filter mesh for high‑precision castings.

Can you provide samples?

Yes, free samples available, please send your dimension requirement via inquiry form.

Can this filter be reused?

No, it is one‑time disposable foundry consumable.
