Foundrymax offers the 120×100×20mm rectangular alumina ceramic foam filter with 20 PPI pore density, designed for aluminium foundries requiring larger filtration area in their gating systems.

Why Rectangular?

While round filters are common for sprue wells, rectangular formats offer advantages for certain gating layouts. The 120×100mm footprint provides approximately 20% more filtration area than a 100mm round disc, making it suitable for higher throughput applications. The rectangular shape also fits more efficiently into rectangular sprue bases or runner extensions, reducing wasted space compared to round filters in square or rectangular gating components.

Material

Alumina (Al₂O₃) is rated to 1200°C. It is chemically stable in contact with molten aluminium and non-ferrous melts, does not react with or contaminate the alloy, and provides reliable performance at a cost-effective price point.

Filtration Performance

The 20 PPI pore structure (~1.2–1.5 mm) balances flow rate and inclusion capture, effectively removing oxides, dross, and refractory particles. The open-cell reticulated structure (porosity 80–90%) traps inclusions through mechanical sieving and surface adhesion.
