Foundrymax 23″ × 23″ × 2″ Ceramic Foam Filter Plate – 40/50PPI Fine-Pore Options

Foundrymax offers the 23″ × 23″ × 2″ (584×584×50mm) ceramic foam filter plate in 40 PPI and 50 PPI pore densities, a large‑format fine‑filtration solution for aluminium cast houses and continuous casting operations producing high‑quality aluminium products.

Why 23″ × 23″?

The 23″ × 23″ format (584×584mm) is a standard large‑plate size widely used in the aluminium industry. It is also available as 584×584×50mm in metric denominations, with other standard sizes including 7″, 9″, 12″, 15″, 17″, 20″, 23″, 26″, etc. It provides substantial filtration area for high‑throughput production, making it suitable for:

  • Aluminium ingot, billet, and slab continuous casting

  • Aluminium sheet, plate, and foil manufacturing

  • High‑quality aluminium profiles and extrusions

  • Automotive and aerospace aluminium components

Which PPI Should You Choose?

  • 40 PPI (~0.6–0.8 mm pores) – Captures micron‑level inclusions while maintaining good flow characteristics. Recommended for high‑quality sheet, plate, foil, and applications requiring superior surface quality.

  • 50 PPI (~0.5–0.6 mm pores) – Finer pore structure for enhanced melt cleanliness. Recommended for critical applications such as aviation‑grade aluminium, high‑performance automotive components, and products with tight mechanical property requirements.

How It Works

Installed in a filter box between the furnace and casting machine, the plate allows molten aluminium to pass through its open‑cell reticulated structure (porosity 78–90%). Non‑metallic inclusions — oxides, dross, and refractory particles — are captured through mechanical sieving and surface adhesion. The three‑dimensional network with connected pores ensures:

  • Effective removal of micron‑level impurities

  • Conversion of turbulent flow into steady laminar flow

  • Cleaner metal entering the casting process

The result: fewer inclusion‑related defects, improved surface quality, higher processing speeds, and lower scrap rates.

Edge Sealing

Edge seal gaskets are available to ensure a tight fit within the filter box and prevent melt bypass. Options include fibre paper, fibre cotton, and expanded gaskets.
