Foundrymax 3″ × 3″ × 1″ (75×75×25mm) Zirconia Ceramic Foam Filter – Engineered for Steel Casting

This filter measures 3 inches square by 1 inch thick – a format that corresponds directly to our standard 75×75×25mm size, widely used in the industry. It provides substantial filtration area while remaining compact enough to fit most gating systems without extensive redesign. Available in 10 PPI or 20 PPI, the filter can be specified for high flow or finer filtration as your application requires.

Rated to 1700°C, zirconia (ZrO₂) is the material of choice for steel casting. At steel pouring temperatures (1550°C–1650°C), zirconia maintains its structural integrity and resists erosion from aggressive slags. It does not react with or contaminate the melt, preserving alloy chemistry and supporting consistent mechanical properties. 

At 25.4 mm (1 inch) thick, this filter provides greater mechanical strength and erosion resistance than thinner alternatives. The added material extends service life under high‑static‑pressure pours – common when working with larger steel castings.

Application Versatility

This filter is suitable for carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, and nickel‑based superalloys. It is particularly valuable for castings where inclusion‑related defects – porosity, slag entrapment, surface blemishes – must be minimised to meet quality standards.

The open‑cell reticulated structure captures slag, oxides, and refractory inclusions through mechanical sieving and surface adhesion. The filter converts turbulent flow into laminar flow, reducing re‑oxidation and gas entrapment. Cleaner metal entering the mould cavity translates directly to improved surface finish, enhanced mechanical properties, and lower scrap rates.
