Zirconia – The Steel‑Grade Material
Rated to 1700°C, zirconia (ZrO₂) maintains its integrity at steel pouring temperatures (1550°C–1650°C), unlike silicon carbide which softens and erodes. It resists slag attack and does not contaminate the melt, preserving alloy chemistry and mechanical properties.
The 50×50mm square footprint is a standard small size, suitable for sprue bases, narrow runners, and multi‑cavity moulds. The 22mm thickness provides adequate strength for handling and pour pressures. Available in 10 to 30 PPI.
The open‑cell reticulated structure captures slag, oxides, and refractory inclusions through mechanical sieving and adhesion, delivering cleaner metal to the mould cavity. This reduces scrap, improves surface finish, and enhances mechanical properties.
